24 things you probably did while watching El Clasico tonight

Barcelona ran out of the Clasico with a 2-1 victory to take them four points clear at the top of La Liga.

El Clasico is more than just a game though, and it means more than just points on the league table. It’s an event that we all take time to enjoy whenever it comes around, no matter how much they might be diving or faking injury.

Even if you didn’t go through this exact process watching the game – and it’s incredibly unlikely that you did – you would’ve had a few of these thoughts while watching Luis Suarez and co at the Nou Camp.

1. Grabbed the popcorn and nestled in to the sofa.

2. Or… the bath.

3. Told anyone who protests to leave.

4. Took a minute to wish you were actually there.

5. Made a mental note of the time it took Lionel Messi to make his first nutmeg of the night.

6. Sang a song about your adopted club.

7. Heaped some praise on someone for something.

8. Noted how 17 minutes had passed without anything happening.

9. Recognised that through the rivalry, comes love.

10. Felt smug in that knowledge that that making a first goalscorer bet is always a foolish thing to do.

11. And that the first booking of the game in this fixture is always going to one of two players.

12. Realised how much Manuel Neuer has changed the role of a goalkeeper.

13. And that you can’t keep a good striker from scoring.

14. Rolled your eyes at the dives. So many dives.

15. Said something about Pepe.

16. Realised that Gael Clichy and Alex Song have made it onto the punditry team and turned off your TV for half time.

17. Watched Suarez score and celebrated in one of three ways: Either by embracing El Clasico.

Or loathing the man who scored it.

Or by trying to involve yourself in it.

18. Forgot about the Suarez screamer for a minute and remembered that Gareth Bale is actually somewhere on the pitch.

19. Realised that even Barcelona’s official account is bored with Neymar’s selfish play.

20. Daydreamed about that perfect player who used to always be there to balance out all the foolishness.

21. Noted that Xavi will probably never again be pulling strings in a Clasico.

22. Waited for Messi to score.

23. Realised that it doesn’t matter whether or not he scores.

24. Turned off your TV, slightly underwhelmed.
