Bayern Munich beat Barcelona 3-2 tonight, but it’s Barcelona who’ve reached the Champions League final with a 5-3 win over the two legs.
It wasn’t anything like the craziness of the first-leg, but Bayern never gave up and for a small period of time had people really believing they could overcome the deficit.

Lionel Messi had a quiet night, and Barcelona had a very defensive second-half, distinctly lacking energy up front after Luis Suarez came off. Despite that, Guardiola’s efforts weren’t enough to stop the monster which he made.

Bayern scored after just seven minutes. It looked like we were going to see a repeat of what happened against Porto in the previous round…
But there was just eight minutes between Benatia’s goal and Neymar’s equaliser. Hope took just eight minutes to die.

He’s considered the world’s best now, but it was the German keeper at the opposite end who won the plaudits usually reserved for Neuer.
Both made some great saves but it’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s double save, keeping his hand strong enough to block a shot after being sent the wrong way and then recovering to make sure the ball didn’t completely cross the line, which will be remembered.

Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are undoubtedly the two players who give Bayern Munich their X Factor, and with both being injured neither figured in either leg against Barcelona.

Neymar was Brazil’s best player during the World Cup, but due to suffering an injury he wasn’t on the pitch when Germany mauled them 7-1. Perhaps he’ll consider this 5-3 thumping sufficient revenge?
He scored both of Barcelona’s goals on the night, and sacrificed a hat-trick unselfishly trying to set up Messi at the end.

A quick look back and it seems it could be quite old – we just never get to see him playing without long sleeves or thermals on.

It’s almost impossible to imagine Messi anywhere other than Barcelona, so that would mean Pep would have to return to the club where he won so much.
We can see it happening one day, and we hope it does – they just look right together.
Tomorrow night we’ll find out whether it will be Real Madrid or Juventus facing Barcelona in Berlin.
