Leverkusen's Kadlec 'attacked by Cologne fans'

Leverkusen's Czech defender Michal Kadlec will on Monday undergo a surgery on his broken nose, an injury he suffered on Saturday when he was allegedly attacked by Cologne fans, his agent said.

Kadlec was attacked after a late dinner with fellow players as his team had returned home following a 1-0 win at Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga, the Sport Invest agency said on its website.

Two Cologne fans aimed a string of insults at the 27-year-old Kadlec, then hit him on the head from behind as he was leaving the restaurant with his girlfriend.

"When I turned, I got hit in the nose which started bleeding," Kadlec said on the Sport Invest site.

"I'll undergo a surgery on Monday and then it depends on how fast the swelling will recede. Then I'll have a special mask made," said Kadlec.

"I'll wear the mask for five or six weeks, but I should take it off before Euro 2012 starts," added Kadlec, who has scored seven goals in 33 games for the Czech national team.

The Czech Republic are facing Greece, Poland and Russia in the group stage of the Euro 2012 tournament, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, which starts on June 8.
