Heynckes fires title warning

Bayer Leverkusen head coach Jupp Heynckes has warned that his side will not give up their place at the top of the Bundesliga table easily.

Leverkusen are two points ahead of the chasing pack going into the weekend action and are yet to taste defeat in the league this season, having won 11 and drawn eight of their 19 games to date.

Heynckes told Kicker: "We are at the top of the table, have a two-point lead over Bayern and the team is developing excellently.

"Therefore, I believe that it is not going to be very easy to get us down. We still have not hit our peak."

Meanwhile, Red Bull Salzburg boss Huub Stevens has played down speculation linking him with the managerial vacancy at German champions Wolfsburg.

The 56-year-old Dutchman enjoyed success in the Bundesliga with Schalke and Hamburg, but his deal with his Austrian employers runs until the summer of 2011.

Stevens told Servus TV: "It's always flattering to hear that you're being linked with a big club such as Wolfsburg. However, it's just a rumour and there hasn't been any contact so far."
