Newly-promoted Hertha Berlin have strengthened their squad for next season's Bundesliga campaign by signing Japan midfielder Hajime Hosogai from Bayer Leverkusen for one million euros (US$1.25m).

The 26-year-old, who has made 19 appearances for Japan, is the capital city club's third new signing since they won the second division title and automatic promotion.

Hosogai joined Bayer from Urawa Red Diamonds in January 2011 and was immediately loaned out to Augsburg, but made 17 appearances for Leverkusen this season, mostly starting at right or left-back.

He joins left-back Johannes van den Bergh, from Fortuna Duesseldorf, and centre-back Sebastian Langkamp, from Augbsurg as Hertha's new signings.
