Kewell keen to make amends

19 Jun 2006 - 08:44:33

Harry Kewell is determined to put in a big performance in Australia's final Group F game against Croatia after missing a sitter during Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Brazil.

The World Cup holders were just one up when a mistake by goalkeeper Dida presented Kewell with an open goal, but the 27-year-old somehow managed to miss the target.

"The belief showed out there on the pitch against Brazil," the Liverpool winger told BBC Sport.

"We closed them down and created chances and it was just disappointing we didn't finish ours.

"We have taken confidence, although I don't know about that when it comes to me in front of goal.

"But it's just one of those things. You have to look forward to the next game and when you get that chance next time you put it away."

Victory against Croatia would guarantee the Socceroos a place in the last 16, while a draw would be good enough unless Japan somehow manage to record a big victory against Brazil.
