Australia will play their key home World Cup qualifier against Japan in Brisbane in June, Football Federation Australia said on Wednesday.

Australia, the top-ranked Asian team, will face Japan on June 12, the FFA said.

Japan edged Australia 1-0 in extra time to win the 2011 Asian Cup final in Doha, but the Socceroos hold the advantage in their 19 meetings, having won seven games and lost five.

Australia have been drawn in Group B, along with Japan, Iraq, Jordan and Oman for the final round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
