Awesome time for Cahill

17 Jun 2006 - 13:07:52

Australia hero Tim Cahill admits he is loving the experience of being one of the stars of the show at the World Cup finals.

The Everton midfielder netted the Socceroos' first-ever goal in a finals tournament in the 3-1 win over Japan, adding a second for good measure just before the final whistle.

He told his club's official website: "It's awesome over here.

"We couldn't have asked for a better start and to be the first Australian to score a World Cup finals goal is incredible.

"The papers in Australia have gone a bit mad about it all. Some of them are devoting most of their pages to the World Cup.

"We might be a long way from home, but we know about the excitement we are creating and we just want to continue it now."

Of the next game, against World Cup holders Brazil, Cahill added: "We are looking forward to it immensely.

"They're a great team with great players, but we know we can have a good go at anyone. We'll be going into it believing that we can get a result."
