Diego Forlan hailed his Atletico Madrid team-mates after being confirmed as the leading scorer in Spain for the second time in his career.

The Uruguayan was on the scoresheet during the season-ending 3-0 win over Almeria which secured Champions League football.

Forlan was also confirmed as the winner of the 'Pichichi' as his tally of 32 league goals edged out Samuel Eto'o (30), David Villa (28) and Lionel Messi (23).

"I'm very happy because we've obtained qualification to the Champions League for the second successive year and because I've achieved the Pichichi in a league as strong as the Spanish one," said Forlan, who previously won the award with former club Villarreal.

"I'm very grateful to everyone at this club. To have won the Pichichi at Atleti and what it means to this team is very important."
