Atletico confirm Maniche exit

Atletico Madrid have released out-of-favour Portugal midfielder Maniche.

The 31-year-old former Chelsea, Benfica and FC Porto midfielder had been out in the cold at the Vicente Calderon since failing to report for a home game after being informed that he was not part of the matchday squad.

Maniche had been with Atletico for three years - although he spent time on loan in Italy with Internazionale - but has left the club with immediate effect ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season.

"Club Atletico de Madrid and Nuno Maniche have reached a satisfactory agreement to rescind the contract of the Portuguese player, which was to expire on 30 June," confirmed a club statement.

"In this manner, Maniche is free to sign with another team. The organisation wishes the footballer luck in his future endeavours."
