Atletico Madrid right-back Juanfran is expected to be out for three weeks with a left thigh injury.

The Spain international was replaced at half-time of Sunday's 1-0 triumph over Sporting Gijon in La Liga after sustaining a muscular problem.

A statement from Atletico read: "Juanfran underwent medical tests on Monday which have revealed a second degree muscular lesion in his adductor of his left thigh.

"The player will continue to be assessed."

Although Atletico have not revealed how long the player be sidelined for, Juanfran is set to be out of action until next month.

Juanfran will miss Spain's upcoming international friendlies against England and Belgium.

The 30-year-old, who has made 14 starts in all competitions for the Rojiblancos, is also expected to sit out Atletico's next league games at Real Betis and against Espanyol.

Atletico are third in La Liga, four points adrift of league leaders Barcelona heading into the international break.
