Vieri tipped to bounce back

Atalanta coach Luigi Del Neri has tipped veteran striker Christian Vieri to come good during the second half of the Serie A season.

The well-travelled striker has scored just two league goals for the ninth-placed club after struggling with injuries since his arrival at the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia from Fiorentina last summer.

"We rely a lot on Vieri, on his quality," said Del Neri.

"He is a great champion who has worked hard and we hope to have in him our talisman for 2009."

Meanwhile, Del Neri claims his main priority is still to avoid relegation despite his side's occupying a place in the top half of the table at the turn of the year.

"Our aim remains to avoid relegation and in order to do that we need to improve on our away form," he continued.

"We calmly avoided the drop last season and we started this campaign well. There is no reason why we cannot continue to do so."
