Surgery for Atalanta star

Atalanta have confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Ferreira Pinto has torn knee ligaments and will play no more football this season.

The 29-year-old suffered the injury in the 3-0 defeat at AC Milan and has been told that he needs an operation.

The former Cesena and Perugia star is expected to undergo surgery later this week and will be sidelined for six months.

Ferreira Pinto had been linked with a summer switch to AS Roma but it is unclear whether his injury setback will bring an end to the transfer speculation.
