Snow hits Italian league games

The Atalanta-Genoa Serie A match was called off minutes before it was due to kick off at 6.30pm local time on Wednesday due to heavy snow.

It was the third match of the day to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions, following the Siena-Catania and Bologna-Fiorentina clashes, which were called off in the morning.

Falling snow had meant Atalanta's match in Bergamo was at risk all day and the kick-off had even been delayed by a half hour to give the conditions a chance to improve but that wasn't enough to save it.

The match at Siena was postponed because the weather conditions had made the Artemio Franchi stadium unsafe for fans while in Bologna the pitch at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara is frozen.

On Tuesday night league leaders Juventus's clash at Parma's Stadio Tardini was also called off less than an hour before kick-off due to heavy snow.
