Conte returns with Atalanta

Atalanta have sacked coach Angelo Gregucci and replaced him with Antonio Conte.

Former Juventus midfielder Conte has been out of management since leaving Bari in the summer despite leading the club to promotion to Serie A.

Conte was strongly linked with the coaching vacancy at Juve after deciding to end his short but successful stint at Bari, but the job at the Turin club eventually went to another former player in Ciro Ferrara.

Gregucci was axed after Atalanta suffered their fourth consecutive defeat of the new season at the weekend.

"Atalanta would like to communicate that Antonio Conte has been appointed as coach of the first team," confirmed a brief statement.

"The club would like to thank Angelo Gregucci and his staff and wish him the best for the future."
