Young eyes European spot

Young eyes European spot

Aston Villa forward Ashley Young believes European qualification is still on the cards as they prepare to take on Everton in a crunch clash on Sunday.

Villa moved to within three points of the fifth-placed Toffees following Sunday's 5-1 derby rout of Birmingham City.

Everton currently occupy the one UEFA Cup qualification place available via the league, but Young believes they can be toppled from their perch following a return to form for the Midlands club.

"We're looking forward to getting three points again," the England international told the club's official website.

"Every team goes through a bad spell. We had ours. But we showed character to bounce back really well.

"We always felt that we could finish in a European spot. We said that from the start of the season and it is in our own hands.

"That's what we are looking to do. We never said we were out of it. We'll take it to the last game of the season.

"It's important we concentrate on the rest of the games and you can tell that that is what the boys are doing."
