Peter Whittingham is determined to win his first-team place at Villa Park back after agreeing to move to Championship side Burnley on a month's loan.
The 20-year-old has drifted out of David O'Leary's plans since the festive period and sees the move to Turf Moor as the chance to rediscover his best form.
"I haven't been featuring that much, so it just makes sense for me to go out on loan and get some games under my belt," he told Villa's official website.
"I've spoken to Gary Cahill and he loves it up there. The move has done him the world of good and hopefully it will do the same for me.
"There were a few clubs showing an interest, Wigan and Leeds also asked about me. So it's nice to know that people were aware of my situation.
"Now I just want to play as much football as possible and get back to the form I showed at the start of last season.
"I certainly don't see this as the end for me at Villa and I aim to be back pushing for the first team.
"But everyone says that's what can happen to younger players - you have the highs and lows.
"This season has been frustrating for me, but I'm not giving up or anything like that. I just have to come back stronger than ever."
The England Under-21 international has started 26 Premiership games and made 23 more appearances for Villa from the substitute's bench since making his debut for the club almost two years ago.
