Villa worry over Carew knock

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has admitted that John Carew is a major doubt for Saturday's Premier League trip to Arsenal.

The club's seven-goal joint top-scorer missed last Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough with a back problem picked up on UEFA Cup duty.

O'Neill was hoping to have Carew plus fellow absentees Stiliyan Petrov and Luke Young back for the trip to the Emirates Stadium, but the Norway striker remains a major doubt.

"Stiliyan and Luke are making decent progress," O'Neill told the club's official website.

"They are going to be training this week with a view to Saturday. I will have a better idea later in the week.

"John is really struggling at the moment. The discomfort seems to have moved from his back to the front thigh area. He is in discomfort. We will see.

"He had scans yesterday that have come up pretty decently. He is going for tests now with the specialist. We will see accordingly."
