Aston Villa are refusing to make any panic buys despite failing to finalise any transfers so far this summer.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill had been linked with a move for Hamburg midfielder Nigel de Jong but the 22-year-old is now reported to be staying with the Bundesliga side.
However, Villa's head of communications Phil Mepham is refusing to be too downhearted and expects new arrivals to be confirmed shortly.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "It would be fair to assume that Martin O'Neill would want the crux of his additions in by July 4 when the players return for pre-season training.
"But he's a manager who would rather not rush things through. If it's the right bloke then he would wait until, say, July 18.
"There is no desperate rush to get things sorted. It is all very relaxed.
"He may have identified the players he wants and may already know that they want to come, and there may be ones he has identified who don't.
"Maybe he is waiting for those who do to get back off holiday - I don't know. At the moment things are extremely quiet."
