Aston Villa are closing in on a double deal to sign Middlesbrough defender Luke Young and Reading left-back Nicky Shorey.
Boro have confirmed that they have agreed a fee, believed to be around £4million, for right-back Young, who only moved to the Riverside a year ago from Charlton Athletic.
The 29-year-old scored once in 42 outings for Boro last term, having previously racked up more than 200 appearances for the Addicks after starting his career with Tottenham Hotspur.
Young has also won seven caps for England, although he has not featured since a 3-2 friendly win over Argentina in November 2005.
Meanwhile, Villa have also emerged as favourites to land Shorey, who is also an England international.
The 27-year-old has already made it known that he wants to leave the Royals, with the Championship club having already turned down one bid of around £2million for Shorey.
Sunderland, West Ham United and Portsmouth have also been linked with Shorey in recent weeks.
