Villa swoop for Beye

// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Aston Villa have confirmed that they have signed Habib Beye from Newcastle on a three-year deal. The defender had made no secret of the fact that he wanted to leave St James' Park and he was thought to be close to a move to Hull City. KC Stadium boss Phil Brown had agreed a fee with Newcastle for Beye but Villa have scuppered their Premier League rivals after paying an undisclosed fee. Villa have been on the hunt for defensive reinforcements throughout the summer following the retirement of Martin Laursen. Beye can, therefore, fill in at full-back to allow the likes of Carlos Cuellar to revert to a central role, while also taking the pressure off Wilfred Bouma's return to fitness.
