Aston Villa are sweating on the seriousness on Martin Laursen's knee injury, with initial scans on the problem having proved inconclusive.
The 31-year-old Denmark international has been plagued by knee problems during his career and has not featured for Villa since the 2-1 derby win at home to West Bromwich Albion just over a week ago.
However, Villa boss Martin O'Neill remains positive that the eventual prognosis will not prove to be too serious.
He said: "He has already had some scans but, at the moment, the results seem to be a little unclear.
"We are going to try and manage it. We will try and get him pain-free for the games and see if he is comfortable with that.
"We will take it on from there. Obviously we miss him because he has been such a big player for us."
