Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has completed the signing of Tottenham winger Wayne Routledge on a deal running until the end of next season.
The former England Under-21s international has struggled to impress at White Hart Lane following his switch from Crystal Palace in July 2005.
The 23-year-old made only five first-team appearances for the club and has spent loan spells with Portsmouth and Fulham in the last two years.
Routledge made his name with Palace after coming through the youth team ranks at Selhurst Park.
He scored 11 goals in 110 appearances for the Eagles after making his debut for the club as a 16-year-old in October 2001, before his ill-fated switch to Spurs.
Meanwhile, O'Neill also hopes to snap up Chivas USA's goalkeeper Brad Guzan before the transfer window shuts at midnight on Thursday.
Guzan, who has also been interesting Celtic, impressed during a recent trial at Villa Park.
He will replace Thomas Sorensen who seems certain to leave the club in the near future, while Stuart Taylor is also expected to be on his way out in the summer.
