Villa move for Salifou
Saturday Sep 01 2007 10:26

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill made a late move into the transfer market to sign Togo international midfielder Moustapha Salifou.

The 24-year-old joins Villa from Swiss side FC Wil for an undisclosed fee, having signed an initial one-year contract.

Salifou was a member of the Togo squad who qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in their history in 2006, where the midfielder featured in all three group games.

Villa boss O'Neill told the club's official website: "He has great determination to succeed at this level and may well prove to be an excellent asset."

O'Neill had already brought in defensive duo Zat Knight and Curtis Davies from Fulham and West Bromwich Albion respectively to strengthen his Villa Park squad.
