Villa in Warnock discussions

Aston Villa are in negotiations with Blackburn Rovers over the potential transfer of Stephen Warnock to Villa Park.

The 27-year-old left-back has spent two seasons at Ewood Park following a £1.5million transfer from Liverpool.

Warnock has broken into the full England squad during his time with Rovers after making one appearance in a friendly against Trindad & Tobago 15 months ago.

"Villa can confirm they are in discussions with Blackburn Rovers over the transfer of Stephen Warnock," read a brief club statement.

Warnock's potential arrival at Villa Park casts further doubt on Nicky Shorey's future at the Midlands club.

Speaking earlier in the week, Shorey admitted he was unsure whether he still had a future at Villa.

"Will I still be here next week? Who knows? Who knows what's going to happen? That's football," said the former Reading left-back.

"If we're playing well and winning hopefully I'll stay in the team."
