Under-21 call for Agbonlahor

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has been called up to the England Under-21 squad for the friendlies against Norway and France.

Agbonlahor, who was a starter against Spain in the last England game in February, was conspicuous by his absence from either the full or under-21 squads when they were announced on Sunday.

However, he has been added to Stuart Pearce's under-21 squad after having a slight injury knock assessed.

He is the third player after Stoke's Ryan Shawcross and Portsmouth's Martin Cranie to be added to the squad since Monday.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor and Arsenal; forward Theo Walcott have both been pulled out of the squad for the trip to Norway on Friday and the following Wednesday's visit of France to the City Ground through injury.

Pearce's options were also further reduced after Aaron Lennon received a call-up to Fabio Capello's full squad for the friendly against Slovakia and the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.
