Aston Villa boss Graham Taylor has said that he is not convinced that entering the Intertoto Cup would be in the best interests of his squad.
The former England boss is worried about the effect over a year of constant football has had on his players, but knows that the final decision will be made by the financially minded Villa Park directors.
"I do have players here who have been playing football for almost all of the year," warned Taylor.
"They had the big pressure of playing in World Cup games, with a different climate and all the travelling, and then came back into the Intertoto.
"I can see now and then that there is a bit of tiredness in certain players. I have to stress that is something I don't want to over-play.
"But it seems as if the club are looking to enter the Intertoto again this summer if we qualify - and it would be fair to say that I am dubious about the real benefit of this."
