Aston Villa are on the verge of concluding a deal to land Nigel Reo-Coker after the West Ham United midfielder reportedly underwent a medical at the weekend.
The England Under-21 captain is thought to have been assessed at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training complex prior to an £8million transfer to the Midlands club.
Reo-Coker has been linked with Villa after handing in a transfer request at Upton Park at the end of last season.
The former Wimbledon midfielder cited a lack of support from the club's hierarchy after enduring a difficult season when he was singled out by disgruntled fans for criticism.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill has been busy streamlining his squad in anticipation of the move for the 23-year-old midfielder.
Gavin McCann has already been sold to Bolton Wanderers, while Northern Ireland international Steven Davis is set to join Fulham for around £5million.
Meanwhile, O'Neill continues to be linked with several high-profile Premier League stars.
Unsettled Chelsea and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is believed to be on his summer wish list alongside Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.
