PFA Young Player Of The Year 2013 Nominee: Christian Benteke
The season is drawing to a close and the nominees for the 2013 PFA Young Player of the Year have officially been announced.
The PFA Young Player of the Year is an annual award given to the player aged 23 or under at the start of the season who is adjudged to have been the best of the year across all the professional leagues in England. There has been no shortage of worthy contenders, however six names have now been short-listed as stand-out performers this season.
Aston Villa's Christian Benteke has been short-listed for the PFA Young Player of the Year. A summer signing from Genk, Benteke has 19 goals in his debut season for Aston Villa.
The Belgian international has the opportunity to break an Aston Villa goal-scoring record this season, as he looks to become the latest player to score 20 league goals in an Aston Villa shirt. Peter Withe was the last player to hit 20 goals for Villa, and if Benteke is able to match that, expect Villa to remain in the top flight of English football.
Benteke has 30 appearances in the Premier League so far, with 15 goals to his name. The burly 22 year old has been Aston Villa's stand out player so far this season, and is a worthy contender for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
