Petrov targets Euro finale
11 Feb 2010 - 15:09:36
Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has confirmed that he will retire from international football following the 2012 European Championship campaign.
The 30-year-old Bulgaria ace believes that that will be the right time to bow out, having already won close to 100 caps for his country.
Petrov stated: "No doubt people have noticed that Bulgaria are in the same qualifying group as England for the European Championships.
"I can confirm this will be my last international qualifying competition."
Meanwhile, Petrov is a major doubt for the FA Cup tie at Crystal Palace this weekend, having suffered an injured ankle in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
Petrov was forced off 20 minutes into the second half of the Villa Park clash, having been on the wrong end of a challenge by Nani which earned the United winger a straight red card.
Boss Martin O'Neill said after that game: "It must have been really sore if Stiliyan was unable to continue.
"I don't know about Sunday yet, there must be some sort of doubt about it. We will see."
