Petrov suffers shoulder woe

Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov is a doubt for the start of the new Premier League season after sustaining a dislocated left shoulder in a pre-season friendly.

The 30-year-old Bulgaria international was injured early on in a 3-1 win over Atlante in the Peace Cup in Spain.

Boss Martin O'Neill told the club's official website: "Stiliyan dislocated his shoulder and the doctor put it back in immediately.

"He is feeling a little better, but we don't know just at this moment how much damage he has done.

"It is obviously the low point of the night, but we don't know the extent of the problem.

"We will find out over the next couple of days to see how it settles down. We just don't know, but it is a concern to us."
