Petrov keen for contract talks

Bulgaria international Stiliyan Petrov is keen to extend his stay with Aston Villa, according to the 29-year-old midfielder's agent.

After initially struggling following his transfer from Celtic to Villa Park just over two years ago, Petrov has established himself as a key player in Martin O'Neill's side.

He currently has less than two years left on his Villa deal, but his representative, Tony McGill, has revealed his client would like to commit his long-term future to the club.

"Stiliyan is very, very happy at Aston Villa and he enjoys playing under Martin O'Neill," he told Sky Sports.

"Villa are going places and Stilian would like to be part of that. He would be happy to speak to Villa about a new deal if they approach him about his contract.

"He is enjoying life at Villa very much and we would hope to sit down with Villa before the end of the season."

Petrov has made 71 appearances for the club since making his debut in September 2006.
