O'Neill waits for new Barry bid

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has hinted that he would be willing to sell Gareth Barry to Liverpool if the Reds offered him £17million plus former Fulham defender Steve Finnan.
Rafa Benitez has had a £15million bid for the England international rejected and O'Neill is unsure whether his new proposal will be acceptable to the Anfield hierarchy.
"Liverpool have come back to us and we have responded to their proposal with a letter," O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail.
"We're still waiting to hear back from Liverpool after putting that proposal to them.
"It's really up to Liverpool. I really don't know how it's going to work out at the moment.
"I'm sure there will be some sort of resolution at some stage or another."
Meanwhile, striker John Carew is confident Villa will be a stronger side in the new campaign, with or without Barry.
The Norway international said: "In the end we will get new players which hopefully will make the team stronger than before.
"I think the players are quite calm. The players' business is to go out and work 100 per cent and not stick our noses into anything else.
"We have to concentrate on ourselves if we are going to be 100 per cent and we are all confident the club will do the rest.
"We are in the same boat, we have to fight together as a team on the pitch and are not thinking about which players are coming in and when they are coming in."
