O'Neill vows to be cautious

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill doesn't expect to make wholesale changes to his squad during the summer months. O'Neill is looking to ship out some fringe members of the Villa Park playing staff - including Lee Hendrie and Jlloyd Samuel and Eric Djemba-Djemba - but has vowed to be prudent when it comes to summer transfer deals. Meanwhile, the likes of Liam Ridgewell, Aaron Hughes and Gavin McCann have all been linked with possible departures during the close season. "I'm genuinely not in any rush to let players go," he told the Birmingham Mail. "There's always the possibility of taking on someone who's not as good as someone you've got. "It's not my intention to cut a swathe through the squad - my intention is to add to it and then see what happens. "I'd rather be in a position a week before the season starts of being able to afford to let a number of people leave if they are desperate to do so, rather than the other way around where we're running around for players before transfer deadline."
