O'Neill Stays

Villa boss ends speculation over his future after chat with chairman Martin O'Neill will be Aston Villa manager next season. The Northern Irish supremo has held productive talks with chairman Randy Lerner and will take charge of the Claret and Blue for at least another year. O'Neill recently guided Villa to a third consecutive sixth-placed finish and he also masterminded appearances in the Carling Cup final and the FA Cup semi-finals. Unfortunately, he saw his side lose out on both of their big days as Manchester United claimed the League Cup and Chelsea went on to advance in the world's premier competition. On both occasions Villa were unlucky, as referees Phil Dowd and Howard Webb made controversial decisions, which cost the Claret and Blue. But, all in all, it has been a third season of progression with the youngsters at Villa Park starting to flourish. The likes of James Milner, who was named PFA Young Player of the Year, and Nathan Delfouneso have starred under O'Neill's guidance. And they will now get the chance to do so again next time round as the gaffer has finally put an end to speculation that he will join Liverpool in the summer. It is a big boost to Villa fans and they will be hoping that Lerner gives O'Neill the cash he needs to strengthen his squad for a renewed push for fourth place next season.
