O'Neill grateful for lesson

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill believes the 4-0 Carling Cup defeat handed down by Chelsea shows that the Midlands club are far from the finished article. Chelsea named a full-strength side for the fourth-round clash and comprehensively outplayed the Villains, who have undergone a resurgence under the control of O'Neill and currently occupy sixth place in the Premiership table. The Villa boss said: "We were well beaten. We have much work to do and we know that. "In the second half I thought Chelsea were really excellent and we were unable to cope with them. "The team they put out was not a surprise to me. The League Cup is not the Premiership but it is a competition that Chelsea want to win."
