O'Neill cools Samuel talk

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has cooled talk linking out-of-favour defender Jlloyd Samuel with a move to Bolton Wanderers.

The 25-year-old has made almost 200 appearances for Villa but has only started two Premiership games for the club this term, and they both came in August.

Samuel's contract is due to expire in the summer and O'Neill has admitted the one-club man could leave Villa Park on a free transfer.

"No-one from Bolton has spoken to me about Jlloyd," he insisted. "His contract is up in the summer and in May he will be free to speak to people.

"It has been a stop-start season for Jlloyd. He played in the opening game [of the season], got injured in the second game and came back from injury, then played a little bit against Manchester United, then was taken ill.

"Will I offer him a new deal? I will sit down and speak to Jlloyd first of all."
