O'Neill cool after Villa defeat

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill was not too disappointed to see his side finish their UEFA Cup Group F campaign with a 3-1 defeat at Hamburg.

O'Neill chose to rest a host of first-team regulars for the game in Germany, with Villa having already secured a place in the last 32 of the competition.

He after the loss: "We were beaten by the better team. I am disappointed to be beaten, but we have qualified and we will give the competition due consideration in February.

"Obviously the draw is on Friday and I look forward to that.

"We are through and I was very pleased with some of the younger players, Nathan Delfouneso especially in the second half did really well.

"Once again, disappointed to have lost, but we were through.

"If you finish first or second, you get your home game second in the final 32, but it concerns me less than when I first thought about it.

"Who knows what might happen in February? Who knows what players will be available to me at the time?"
