Aston Villa have been hit by the news that Patrik Berger will be out for three weeks after being forced to undergo knee surgery.
The Czech Republic midfielder picked up an injury during the 3-1 defeat at Manchester City, after coming on as a half-time substitute and making a major impact.
Villa are likely to be without the former Portsmouth man for the Premiership games against Liverpool, Sunderland and Charlton and possibly the Carling Cup tie against Doncaster.
David O'Leary revealed: "He has had his cartilage trimmed and he should be out for around three weeks - no longer than that."
Meanwhile, Lee Hendrie is ready to return to the first-team squad following his recent knee injury, with the 28-year-old successfully coming through a midweek reserve game.
