Milner rejects Villa return

Aston Villa's hopes of landing Newcastle United midfielder James Milner in January have been all but ended by the England Under-21 international himself.

Milner spent last season on loan at Villa Park and had been close to rejoining on a permanent basis before the transfer window slammed shut at the end of August.

However, the 20-year-old now says he is happy with the Magpies after becoming a first-team regular once again.

Milner told The Journal: "There are constant rumours about Aston Villa, but I think I'll still be here in January, I certainly hope so.

"When you're at a club like Newcastle you're going to get these sorts of rumours the whole time, but it doesn't affect me.

"I'm going to concentrate on Newcastle, playing my football and getting on with the job of getting us back up the Premiership table.

"You've got to play well to stay in the team, but I'm enjoying my football and I'm showing my best form."
