Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg is in no rush to sign a new contract with the club even though he is in the last year of his deal.
The Sweden international has had preliminary talks about extending his current deal at Villa Park but remains relaxed about his future.
He said: "There is no rush from my point of view. We will just have to see what happens.
"Will I run the contract down? I don't want to close any doors. At the moment I'm just focusing on doing as well as I can for the team and myself.
"We are a month or so into the season now, I'm focusing on the football and that's what I want to talk about really.
"I'm trying to do the job as best as I can if that (right-back) is where the gaffer (Martin O'Neill) wants me to play."
The 30-year-old has made 230 appearances in his six years with Villa after joining the club from Racing Santander.
