Major coup for League One Colchester as ex-Toon star Solano arrives on trial

Former Newcastle and Aston Villa midfielder Nolberto Solano has joined Colchester on trial. The ambitious League One side have targeted the former Peru captain as they bid for promotion to the Championship.     Solano, 35, currently plays for recently crowned Peruvian champions Universitario de Deportes but the ex-West Ham star is believed to be looking for a short term deal before the Lima-based outfit kick-off their title defence in February. 'I suppose it's a bit of a date that we're having at the moment,' said Boothroyd. 'As is usually the case, you don't get married on the first date, you've got to go out a few times before you make any big decision.' Fourth-placed Colchester have enjoyed fine form since the 38-year-old succeeded Paul Lambert in September, winning 10 of his first nineteen games at the helm. Golden oldies: The one-time West Ham man Solano, a year younger than Manchester United star Ryan Giggs, is looking to have another spell  in England But Boothroyd believes that Solano's professionalism and big game experience would some extra quality to the U's determined squad. 'Nobby is a player that I've got a lot of respect for,' he added. 'He has played at some fantastic clubs.
