Luke Young priced out of Liverpool move

Money matters: Villa defender Young Liverpool have failed to land Luke Young after the Aston Villa defender refused to take a £10,000-a-week pay cut. The Reds bid £2.75million for Young but the package on offer made no financial sense to the 31-year-old full back. Young has three years left to run on his contract at Villa Park and Liverpool's offer, believed to be worth around £37,000 a week, was knocked back. Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson was keen to strengthen at the back after Philipp Degen joined Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio in leaving Anfield. Hodgson will be disappointed but Villa boss Martin O'Neill is also likely to be frustrated. O'Neill needs to sell before he can buy and Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, Steve Sidwell, Nicky Shorey and Habib Beye are collectively earning £1m a month and preventing the Villa Park chief from splashing out.   Hodgson bids £2.75m to take Young from Aston Villa to LiverpoolSign up to our FREE Fantasy Football game - with £40,000 in prize money up for grabsSchwarzer: I want to join Arsenal!
