Luke Young glad he knocked back Liverpool to stay at Aston Villa
Published : 05 Oct 2010 10:01:46

Luke Young is relieved he snubbed Liverpool in the summer to stay with Aston Villa. The 31-year-old defender knocked back a £2.5million move to Anfield and, with the Reds in serious trouble near the foot of the Premier League, Young is convinced he made the right decision. The full-back said: 'It was a very difficult decision at the time because I had to weigh up certain things. But I felt I had more chance of getting in the first team at Villa. Happy where he is: Defender Young (left) decided to stay at Villa Park 'I didn't want to go as a back-up and it isn't going great for them right now. I felt it was better to stay and fight for my place. 'I was never convinced I was going to Liverpool to play. Glen Johnson, England's No 1 right-back, is there so I knew I'd end up watching in the league and play a few games in Europe, maybe.'
