Aston Villa defender Martin Laursen faces more injury heartache after limping out of Wednesday's Carling Cup defeat by Chelsea with suspected knee ligament damage.
The Denmark international has made just a handful of appearances since arriving at Villa Park two years ago.
A succession of knee injuries have plagued the 29-year-old whom Villa signed from AC Milan for £3million.
"Martin left the ground on crutches and it looks like it might be ligament damage. We will have to keep our fingers crossed," said Villa boss Martin O'Neill.
"You hope he is okay because he has come back from a very serious injury that would have knocked a lot of people.
"Some people would never have come back from that and I have great respect for him."
Gareth Barry also picked up a back injury during the 4-0 defeat and is a doubt for Saturday's trip to Everton.
"Gareth took a knee to the back and it's very sore," added O'Neill. "We will have to wait and see how long it will be a problem for."
