Lampard ready to put Ukraine to the sword as England home in on World Cup dream

Frank Lampard is confident England will take another giant step towards the World Cup when they meet Ukraine on Wednesday. The Three Lions currently lead Group Six by five points and another victory at Wembley would make them firm favourites to finish in pole position. England were on top form on Saturday when they cruised to a 4-0 win over Slovakia. 'Everyone is quite confident,' he added. 'Wayne Rooney has another two goals, I've scored a goal after not scoring for a while, individuals have played well, and we got a good result. 'It was a very good confidence-booster for us. It was not perfect - but there is evidence we are getting better. 'We've played very well at Wembley in recent games, and it is important we try to make it a fortress and difficult for other teams to come here and play. 'Lampard insists England cannot dismiss the threat of Ukraine hitman Andriy Shevchenko, whose career plummeted at Chelsea. 'Shevchenko is obviously a fantastic player,' he said. 'He will be a huge threat to us, because he can produce something out of the blue. 'I think he had a few injury problems and settling-in problems when he was in England. But as soon as you hear the name Shevchenko, you know he is going to be a threat - and this is a game he will really be wanting to do well in.' Meanwhile, England midfielder Gareth Barry insists they will cope with the absence of injured strikers Emile Heskey, Carlton Cole and Peter Crouch. 'It was very strange what happened with the injuries, especially with two or three in the same position,' he added. 'But we still have good quality options up there. Hopefully Wayne Rooney can stay fit and Darren has been called up. 'There are loads of options, you're not going to be in the England squad if you are not a top player. It's up to the manager who plays but whoever is picked is more than good enough.'
