Keeper misses Villa opener
30 Jul 2007 - 10:41:08
Aston Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen accepts that he will miss his side's opening game of the new season against Liverpool due to a hamstring injury.
The 30-year-old Denmark international suffered the problem in a pre-season friendly against FC Toronto and expects to be out for around three to four weeks.
He told the club's official website: "This is the first time I have sustained this sort of injury. I placed the ball to take a goal kick and just felt my left hamstring go.
"I don't really know what caused it. Perhaps the fact the ball was very hard, that we were playing on synthetic turf, may have contributed.
"I really feared the worst at first, but the physio is happy with my progress and I may need three to four weeks out.
"That would almost certainly rule me out of the Liverpool game, but I hope I will be fit around a week after that."
