Aston Villa defender Aaron Hughes will see a specialist this week after the former
Newcastle United star suffered a recurrence of his hernia problem.
Hughes complained of discomfort during the 2-0 defeat against Wigan at the weekend and boss David O'Leary is keen to check it is nothing serious.
The game against the Latics was the player's first since he returned following an operation but he struggled to make an impact.
Hughes will miss this week's Carling Cup tie against Burnley but O'Leary is hoping he will not be out for much longer.
"Aaron wasn't quite right during and after Saturday's game, so he's going to sit out the Burnley game," the Villa boss confirmed.
"As a precaution we're sending him to see a specialist in the next couple of days, just to make sure there's no serious problem."
Meanwhile, there is better news on Mark Delaney who is set to play against the Clarets after recovering from his injury problems.
"Mark will come into the side and fortunately he's now fully recovered from the knee problem," O'Leary added.
