Aston Villa defender Aaron Hughes is back in training after reports that a knee injury had ended his season proved to be less than accurate.
The 26-year-old Northern Ireland international left the field midway through the second half of the 3-2 defeat at Wigan, but a subsequent scan dispelled fears of ligament damage.
A Villa spokesman said: "A scan has confirmed that there is actually no ligament damage.
"It's nothing more than bruising and we're hoping that a few days' rest will ease the problem.
"He certainly should play again before the end of the season and we wouldn't rule him out against Manchester City."
Hughes is looking forward to possibly facing the Citizens next Tuesday, telling the club's official website: "I haven't got a clue where this story has come from, but the scan revealed no problems and I feel absolutely fine.
"I'm back in training now and, like the rest of the lads, preparing for a tough game against Manchester City on Tuesday."
