Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell hopes to finally make his Premier League debut for Martin O'Neill's side later this month after returning to full training.
The 25-year-old former Reading and Chelsea star featured in both the Intertoto Cup games against Odense in July, but a succession of niggling injuries have sidelined him ever since.
Sidwell, who is expected to feature in next week's reserve team game against Chelsea's second string, told Villa's official website: "I'm fit now. I'm back in training and it's great to be out there again.
"It's been such a frustrating start to the season because I wanted to make a mark here.
"The main thing now is I feel fine and I feel fit. It's about getting games in and working my way into the team.
"It's going to be hard because the lads have been doing so, so well - particularly in midfield.
"But it's about biding my time and taking my chance when it comes along."
